Re: Transmission Main Shaft Spacer Ring

What year? I believe some early transmissions didn’t have it. Tom Endy has a good article explaining the differences. Mine did not have one. When I tried to add prior to discovering this it would...

Re: New Cam Gear Install

I just went through this this morning. It takes a little trial and error. I start with what appears to be a tooth anti-clockwise of the desired location. Tighten it up and see where it lands. Adjust...

Re: Bearing cap question

out of curiosity, why did you have to scrape it? If both engines cranks had the same journal size, i would assume the caps would have the same internal dims.

Bearing cap question

Hypothetically speaking. If you have a cracked Babbitt in a bearing cap, why would you not be able to use one from another engine as long as both engines crank journals measure the same. Or could...

Steering box conversion

A local guy is hot rodding his 31 coupe. He didn’t want the steering column so I grabbed it. Upon closer inspection, it’s neither 7 or 2 tooth. Looks like a 32 box conversion of some kind. Anyone...

Idle after a long drive

After a long drive, let's say 50 miles, my car struggles to idle well. The idle gets lopy and I have to feather it in stop and go to keep it from dying. Shorter outings it runs perfect, even at full...

Re: Timing Gear Question

My assumption is similar. I am experiencing the opposite, where the engine is quiet at idle, but makes a clatter under certain load conditions. Timing adjustment has no impact. Much different than a...

Timing Gear Question

I have read somewhere that a cam gear with excessive backlash will "let you know it". I assume that means it will make noise. My question is, would this noise be present at all times, or would it be...

Re: Foaming coolant under heavy load, bad head gasket?

Do a leak down test. Simple to do and you can rule out head gasket. Could just be cavitation from the water pump.

Dropping the transmission

What is the consensus on removing the transmission. Is it easier to pull the engine, or pull the rear end and removing it that way. In the past I have removed the engine and rear end, and initially...

Re: Fan Belt noise

If this was the case, how would one go about lining them up. Both seem to be fixed points without adjustment.

Fan Belt noise

I have been chasing some rattling and squeaks lately and have a new one for you. I thought either my fan blade was rubbing on the pump (greaseless), or the generator bearing was bad or needing lube...
