The configuration is different for 46-48 compared to the 40.

The fuel line doesn't extend into the tank through the fitting, if I understand the question.

It is possible to cobble sort of a solution with mismatched OE and repop pieces. It is not possible to get full functionality unless the pieces are designed for each other.
