off topic (cars in general) trivia
Automobile trivia questions.... I'll start:
What American automobile sported a banjo steering wheel in 1937, and has employed tail lights of basically the same similar shape ever since? (trick...

DMV renewal scam
Email renewal notice. Official looking with all the bells and whistles. Doesn’t address me by name or which car’s license is expiring or when. Doesn’t have any info it should have, but yes, sure...

Re: Los Angeles in the Early 1950's
I know the youngsters on here can't relate to that, but most of us on the Barn can. What doesn't come through much is the smog we had back then. Those were the days!

Re: Rear hub removal blues
With all due respect to Michael, his Economy Hub Puller, in my opinion, looks to be very sensitive to position correctly without experiencing bad results. The KRW type on the other hand, is all but...

Re: On Down THe Road
Roger, I sold mine last year, after 34 years and a few more miles than you had. It leaves one with a hollow feeling you just don’t recover from. Please don’t go away, we need your continued input...

Re: Hammered alxe shafts - repairable?
When shopping for axles, examine the axle at the inboard end of the key slot for cracks. Any sign of a crack no matter how small WILL, without doubt, fail on you at a most inconvenient time.
The...

Re: Hammered alxe shafts - repairable?
All axles 1935 to 1941 will work for you. All of those years are 32.85” in length, and must pair with either a 16 or 18 tooth spider gear. The 16 tooth began in 1939, but as you require both axles,...

Re: Vin #?
The missing number will prove to be the number 3 if an early 1937, or 4 if as late as 1939. Look closely after the 18, the next digit (missing) is your 3 or 4. Those numbers were hand stamped,...

Re: Rear hub removal blues
The above advice would apply if using an impact method, but has no benefit with a KRW type tool. Proper method would require no more than a rap with a
Hammer, if at all.
With regard to the tool’s...

Re: Rear hub removal blues
That could happen if the key was too long in the first place, jamming itself up the ramp by tightening the axle nut. It should never become a problem if the key is the correct length and installed...

Re: Rear hub removal blues
From your picture, I can't tell exactly what you've got going on there, but it does appear that your hub has come loose from the axle a fraction of an inch. If that's the case, and you have...

Re: Rear Diff Swap
I had a 4.44 dif, and could barely make 60 mph with it. I replace it with a 3.78, after which I could get up to 77 mph.
The Ford flathead with stock distributor will not redline. Point float will...

Re: Rear Diff Swap
Moonshine, the advice above is expensive, not needed, and certainly not in keeping with your wanting to keep your Ford stock.
To answer your questions, yes, the gears within your banjo are...

Your very gracious apology confirms your good intentions.

While this reply is cold and mean, it is so true to the real world of scammers and naive buyers. They’ll gladly sell you a Brooklyn bridge if you’re gullible enough to buy it. The term “Caveat...

Re: Weird Stuff Happens!
Sometimes a roll pin can get caught up by a ridge worn from the constant pressure of the escutcheon spring. Your penetrant and later cranking may have convinced it to overcome the ridge.

Re: 35 oil pressure gauge and 80 lb pump?
He can run them together... The pump is still going to do it's thing, but but the gauge will give a false reading. Best to get a 50# sender so he knows what's happening.

Re: 37 Pickup
Damn good looking truck, and super smart on your part to insist on the title correction. I’d say probably a majority of buyers wouldn’t be that intelligent.
