Re: Front Leaf Spring

Thanks for the replies and helpful advice. After much thought, lots of phone calls and detective work, I've decided to go with the 8 leaf spring from Eaton Detroit. It'll take about three weeks to...

Re: Front Leaf Spring

Is that a new spring? Looks like it might be a restored unit. You can PM me where you got it.....I promise not to tell anyone else.:D

Front Leaf Spring

Hello all. I've been working on my 30 Town Sedan and it seems that the front leaf spring is all sprung out. I thought I could just buy a new one and be done with it. HA HA....guess again. ...

That's an interesting solution. Never thought of that. Nice to know I'm not the only one who ran into this issue. Thanks.

Re: Luggage Truck Lid

I thought that the extension was used if you also had a rear mounted spare?

Luggage Trunk Bracket

Just a quick question for you all who have rear mounted trunks (with no spare tire) on your Town Sedans. I have a 1930 Town Sedan with two side mounts.
The car had a metal trunk in the rear. I...

Re: Zenith Carb: New vs. Rebuilt

I purchased a new Zenith Carb. about a year ago thinking I'd avoid potential problems with a rebuilt. I had purchased a new Zenith about 15 years ago and it was great, and I'm still using it today....

Re: Squeaky Clutch

OK...problem solved, at least temporarily. I found that when I removed the access plate into the bell housing I could see the pressure plate finger pivot points, and hear the squeek quite well. I...

Re: Squeaky Clutch

The stoplight switch could make noise when the brake pedal is applied. In this case the noise is only present when the clutch pedal is depressed or released. I have checked out this noise with the...

Re: Squeaky Clutch

I'll check out that grease fitting, although I'm still suspecting something with the pressure plate, the springs, and/or the finger pivots. You can slowly depress and release the clutch pedal and...

Re: Squeaky Clutch

The metal plate has plenty of clearance around the pedal, as a matter of fact, there's so much that the previous owner of this car installed a piece of carpeting under the plate to cover the space. ...

Re: Squeaky Clutch

Can the finger height be checked with the pressure plate still in the car? The clutch was replaced when the Burtz engine was installed, so I'd assume all of that was checked, although I could be...

Re: The Bounce

What's involved to check for this bearing? What do you need to do or dismantle to see if it's missing? Wouldn't you hear some noise from the shaft flopping around inside the torque tube? Thanks.

Re: The Bounce

Thanks for the input Bill, but if you read my explanation thoroughly you'll see that I replaced all four wheels with known good wheels from my 30 Coupe and still had the problem.

Thanks for all of the useful (and back yard mechanic oriented) suggestions of things to check. Don't know if they are accurate, but the wheels presently have lead balancing weights on the wheels...
