Re: Determining AA rear wheel bearing type

Thanks. I did not realize there was a fitting on the outside of the hub due to the amount of grease caked around it. I was able to pump the bearings full of fresh grease today and also found the axle...

Re: Determining AA rear wheel bearing type

I haven't looked too much into the rear wheel assembly yet. This truck has needed one of everything and I am still learning so much. Is that something, like those on my car, that I can check/tighten...

Determining AA rear wheel bearing type

Hello all. My 1931 AA is running and driving and we've just finished putting wood in the cab. There are some areas of the chassis which need attention but overall the truck is healthy.

Re: Skills Necessary To Own & Operate A Model "A"

I think the Model A is a fantastic car to learn the basics of mechanicking on. Everything is pretty easy, but not too easy. If you have a good attitude and a willingness to dive in, the car will...

Re: 31 AA rescue

Your truck looks great. I have used 0000 steel wool on gun finishes. I have a few big 0000 wheels for my drill press that I could chuck in a hand drill pretty easily. Might be worth a shot.

Re: 31 AA rescue

One thing I need to do sooner than later is some conservation work. Like I said, I think it's fair to call this truck a survivor in its current state and I don't want to take that away from it. The...

That old truck started up today- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xy0xIjZTJU8

Running on gasoline in that video, but we've still got a ways to go. I put a new wire harness in it and we had to...

Re: Battlefield Model A Parts in MO

I've bought stuff from them on a couple occasions. No issues to report.

Re: 31 AA rescue

I went on a bit of a shopping spree... Eckler's had a bunch of stuff in the open box/clearance section of their AA category. One of the things I nabbed was a window channel kit, which on their site...

AA truck bed platform

Hey guys. I am working on getting a '31 AA going again and am looking for any AA bed platform, but preferably the 187A as that's what my truck was built with and I still have some of the original...

Re: 31 AA rescue

By the way, seems I lucked out with the transmission case. I scraped away all the old dried up gunk around the common crack points and it seems solid! So we're in business.

Re: 31 AA rescue

We were plugging away at it today. It was cold as hell and that hampered our progress badly. Item one was cleaning out the cab... I didn't think to take an after pic of this (cold) but we found some...

Re: 31 AA rescue

That Waterlox sounds like the way to go. I don't ever want to do this again on this truck. As for a color coat, I'll probably paint the cab wood black over the sealer before installing it. When it...

Re: 31 AA rescue

Bob, this is an awesome resource- thank you!!! I would never have found this on my own. I can't find the roof kits in stock anywhere so I guess I will be having to cut my own material for the skin....

Re: 31 AA rescue

I have had several Model A bodies up to this point but never reached the point on any of them where I was re-wooding them, let alone upholstering them. The wood is on the way, so I will be at that...

Re: 31 AA rescue

Thank you, Bill! Someone up in Missouri offered me one of those beds and I wish I could make the trip to grab it. Hopefully I can find one closer to home, but it doesn't look too hard to fabricate...

Re: 31 AA rescue

Externally the drums looked good and the brakes did stop the truck (at being-dragged-with-another-truck speeds) so I'm not too worried about them. Of course they could be slightly warped or what have...

Re: Prices going through the roof?

I have watched A prices skyrocket over the time I've been involved in the hobby. A few years ago I feel like I regularly saw complete but non-running project As under $2500 while rough runners could...

Re: 31 AA rescue

I like to save old stuff and hate to junk any old iron that could still put in the work. I'm a believer in mech brakes and took the time to restore those on the A chassis I put a 26 T roadster body...

Re: 31 AA rescue

Yep, it's a lot of work for sure... When I got into this hobby my intention was to put this V8 into a coupe I had dragged home but I fell in love with the banger and the V8 fell by the wayside. I had...

Re: 31 AA rescue

Noted. I only saw it briefly while crawling under the truck to look at the cab from below. It was 11 degrees so I didn't spend a lot of time looking. :p

Re: 31 AA rescue

Thinking about options today.

So if my engine runs but the transmission is toast, I either need to look for another case (the gearset is probably OK), or look at other transmission options. I have...
