Use soluble oil and water , it cools better and doesn't carry the abrasive through the pump like oil does . I have the same machine as you, got it in 1962

If you put it in the ground side nothing is hot , If you put it in the hot side the hot post and the cable going to the switch are still hot when turned off.

Lift the upper lever so they are parallel/even with each other, that is neutral.
You probably bumped the lever and knocked it into first gear.

When I worked in my Dads shop in the 50s you had a choice between permanent anti freeze or alcohol. Alcohol boiled off and you had to keep adding to it. Permanent cost twice as much but you didn't...

Don't use a straight blade adjustable reamer, they are hard to cut a smooth finish with.
Get a precision spiral blade reamer with the long pilot like the Model A vendors sell.
