As per post #4 Broken pin or worn threads! you stated the pedal went to the floor? A pin or something has broken loose.

Is your throttle assembly arm bent? that bolts to rear of motor!

Make sure all the jets are tight with one gasket, no gasket on idle jet.

Yes find a good welder and he will be able to properly weld it for you! Been there done that! Or try and find a new top!put word out at local club or maybe contact Berts model a parts he might have...

Also remove the side valve cover to remove any sludge in there, so valve cover gasket to paper, As far as changing the first oil, just drive it for 500 miles then change it!Have fun!!
