Re: Adjusting Brake Rods
Ed, are you working with all parts of the brake system that have been restored to original specs that have no wear? If not, using the Ford recommended lengths does not account for any slop in the...

Re: Leak on top of carb...
It doesn't make any sense for gasoline to be leaking from the throttle shaft. It would have leaked out of the mouth of the carb past the choke well before the level got high enough to come out of...

Re: Squeal that I can’t pinpoint
I had what sounded like a squeal, and what it turned out to be was that one of the engine pan mounting ears (where it bolts up to the oil pan) had cracked, and the two edges of the cracked metal...

Re: Front Door Latch Removal ‘29 Phaeton
Yes, the side curtain socket has to be removed. There is a tab that runs across the top of the latch assembly, and as you slide the assembly out the tab has to pass over the area that the back of...

Re: charging
It also might take a little running time for the new brushes in the rebuilt generator to fully seat against the commutator. Until they run in and make full contact you could see erratic numbers on...

Re: Ammeter showed a discharge
So I took the inspection cover off and there's plenty of meat on the brushes, I went to move the wire on the third brush to see if insulation had chafed off, and wouldn't you know, the wire fell...

Re: Ammeter showed a discharge
I never considered that! I'll take a peek and let you know. This could also explain why it was back to normal after it cooled down. Could be that something expanded in the generator while it was...

Ammeter showed a discharge
Was driving my Fordor the other day. It started and ran fine the whole trip, but a mile or so from home the ammeter suddenly showed a 15 amp discharge. It normally shows about a 4-6 amp charge when...

Re: Distributor Question
Once you set the timing of a distributor you don't have to re-time it as long as you do not loosen and move the cam. You can remove and replace the distributor without re-timing.

Re: Distributor wiring
The only issue with the lower plate is the pigtail connector that flexes as the upper plate moves with the spark advance. Over many years, the insulation can break and the pigtail can short out...

Re: Vacuum advance dist. for Model A
I never understood the need for vacuum advance until I researched it yesterday after seeing this thread. I always figured an engine develops its highest vacuum when the throttle is closed or...

Re: Luck Selling on this Site?
Someone listed something I was interested in so I sent a private message with some questions. He never responded. Not even a sorry, it's been sold. If you're going to list something, be a good egg...

Re: Model A
The repro starter switch contacts are made from copper, which isn't as springy as the original, which were made of a brass alloy. Sometimes a spark will arc between the stud on the starter and the...

Re: horn wiring. '31
That might be a bandaid fix when the horn is weak when the engine isn't running. When the engine is running the horn is wired directly from the generator cut out, so it would be getting full voltage...

Re: Backfire
Are you running a Tilotson carb? The pot metal used in the Tillys tends to warp. Heat exacerbates the warping. You may be opening up a gap at the mating surface between the carb and intake...
