Re: Mercury 312
I set my '55 272 at .015" lash cold. Sounds a lot quieter and runs just fine.

Re: Teapot Carb rebuild
Those holes are for heat from the exhaust crossover in the manifold to help with cold driveability.
To me, it's OK for them to be plugged as long as the choke on the carb is fuctioning well.

Re: 4100 Carb for 1957 312
I used to flow test carburetors at the old Zenith Caruretor engineering lab in Detroit and they used 2" of mercury as the standard. I worked with people that came from Holley engineering in Warren,...

Re: 4100 Carb for 1957 312
I disagree with what it says above the flow rate chart. It says Autolite 4100, Holley's, Edelbrock and Carter were all flow rated at 1.5" of Mercury. I know for a fact that Holley 4 barrels were flow...

Re: Carb Rebuild
I thought 40 was the model of the car, and 48 was the first Stromberg 3 bolt two barrel in '34.
Pretty sure '33 and '34 Ford cars were model 40's.

Re: Camshaft Question
.300" lobe lift would be about the same as the old Isky RPM300 cam, but it had about 270 degrees of advertised duration. Quite a bit more duration than a stock '57 312 cam.
I had an RPM300 in my '55...

Re: 255 Merucry Dyno Pull
And that's with a 3 bolt carb and intake manifold for a 239 Ford.
If you used a correct Mecury 4 bolt intake and higher flow Holley 885F or 1901 carb, you might have made 140 HP.

Re: Holley 1901 choke pull off is weak.
Are you sure the vacuum channel that's drilled in the intake manifold is completly clear ?
The piston should be a good fit and slide freely, but not sloppy. No o-rings on the piston though.

Re: Holley 94 4 bolt base?
The last years of the Lincoln V12 used a 4 bolt base 94 type carb. Would probably be pretty rare.
I think there were some non Ford applictations that used the 4 bolt too, like maybe IHC trucks....

Re: Carb issue?
What cadillac512 said, plus check for slop in the accereator pump link. When you open the throttle the pump link and pump rod shoud move down with the slightest movement of the throttle.

Re: 1952 Mercury Diff Question
Pretty sure the Merc in '52 to '54 had the rear axle that was like the Ford pass cars. Merc got the Dana with rear cover in '55 like the Ford Wagons, Thunderbirds and Police interceptor pass cars.

Re: carb jet size
The Walker # 15302B carb kit works well. I've used many of them. It has the correct power valve that seals well too.
Available through O'Reilly's auto parts and on EBAY. Made in the USA.

Re: carb jet size
I would make sure the power valve isn't leaking or ruptured before you start changing main jets. Over the years Holley 94 jet sizes varied from about #50 to #57 depending on the year and if car or...
