There were two versions of grease baffles:
Early ones use a longer bolt.
Later ones use SHORT bolts and special nuts.

There was an Automatic transmission that Cartwright CORP came out with in July 1931.
Also there was a vacuum assisted clutch that Bendix came out with.
It is not clear if either one of these...

Is the fan blade loose on the water pump shaft or hub?
Disconnect fan belt from engine pulley for a short time and see if noise stops.

I used a modified version of this process in the 60's that we used 15 or 20 times which did not involve a spring spreader.

I have 3 or 4 tach-dwell meters which I have used since 1955 on Model As, VWs, Porsches and various other engines with standard points/coil ignition systems.

I agree that a bad cutout on top of generator is most likely the cause of dead battery.
Also if cutout or wires to the cutout are not installed correctly same thing will happen.

Look for the BRASS fitting and copper tubing which has been crimped over and cut...
