Re: Distributor won't drop in fully...

No, the purpose of that nut is to keep the distributor from coming up out of the head due to vibration. Just do your best, when you remove the distributor, to keep the shaft in the same position the...

Re: Distributor won't drop in fully...

There is a sleeve (https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/product.htm?pid=978821&cat=41694) around the tang. It may be gunked up enough that the gunk is obstructing the shaft. Certainly the gunk or...

Re: Radiator splash apron

Split rivets that attach a felt pad to prevent vibration between the apron and the bottom of the radiator shell.

Re: Radiator splash apron

If this is a 28/29 apron, that looks to me like someone's way of replacing the welded D-nut bracket, which gets mangled on a lot of them.

Re: Adjusting timing

There are lots of different procedures to set timing, but every one of them involves manually bringing the #1 piston to a designated position (almost always TDC). That's how you set timing on...

Re: Do the Motor Mounts get wired around the bolts

Yes they were wired originally, that's why there's holes drilled through them.

Re: Rim flaps in radial tires?

Yeah, I can't think why that limitation would exist. I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Model A engine in a 32 Model B

I know a guy up in VA who has at least one B engine, maybe two. He says he isn't going to need them and was trying to get me to buy them. I believe they're in running condition. If VA is close enough...

Re: testing horn

Yes, just connect a 6V circuit with one lead on each terminal. Polarity irrelevant.

Re: Winfield Head Paint

I did a fair amount of research on this question a couple years ago for my Winfield red head and I never turned up any positive evidence that the logo was painted a contrasting color.

Re: Distributor rebuild.

I have no idea what that is and it doesn't show up anywhere else in Moss's catalog. Maybe call them and ask?

Re: model a engine

In my book, a "rebuild" means modification (grind, rebore, etc.) of major parts due to wear: crank journals, bearings, cylinder bore, etc. A valve job is not a rebuild, nor is the replacement of...

Re: Distilled water

Rain falls.
The water percolates as groundwater through rocks before it flows into the reservoir.
Calcium (and other salts, but mostly calcium) from the rocks dissolves into the water.
Water...

Re: Crank hole cover rivet

I had a loose cover and I fixed it - at least for now - using a small o-ring. Took some work to wedge the ring under the rivet edges on the back of the shell, but it’s holding for the moment.
