Re: 1950 Mercury add factory OD

Before installing the relay, look closely on the drivers side of the firewall in the engine bay and you should see a couple of factory pressed dimples with the exact spacing for the overdrive relay....

Re: 1950 Mercury add factory OD

Borg Warner overdrive transmissions were available for Fords & Mercurys starting in 1949. I still see them at swap meets. The Mercury '49-'51 units were different from the Ford, so you will need to...

Re: 80 years ago today

We might have had our differences politically, but we weren't divided on knowing what evil was and what to do about it. God bless America!

Re: Third brake light suggestions for 6 volt '40 Ford Tudo

SoCalCoupe,
Believe it or not, I had one of those I kept in my spare lighting/wiring parts stash for the last 30 years or so. I'm not sure if it's still there, but I'm gonna look! Thanks for the...

Re: Third brake light suggestions for 6 volt '40 Ford Tudo

TJ,
Thanks for your reply. I actually had a pair of his reflectors but I didn't notice any more light or extra reflectivity that made any real difference.

**Here are the modifications I've...

Re: Adjusting timing

I don't think I would attempt it any other way. You MUST be at TDC to accurately set timing and using the timing pin in the cam gear removes all doubt.

Re: Third brake light suggestions for 6 volt '40 Ford Tudo

I think you are on the right track with the white cone idea. The bulbs need some kind of reflector. I'm experimenting with using the bottom of a Coke can since space is pretty tight in the bucket. ...

Re: Third brake light suggestions for 6 volt '40 Ford Tudo

Yes, did that a while back, but still doesn't help much. Have brighter LED bulbs on order, but looking for a tasteful, unobtrusive yet effective 3rd brake light solution. The challenge for the...

Re: Third brake light suggestions for 6 volt '40 Ford Tudo

Yes sir, that's exactly the point of this subject!

Stock '40 Ford taillights have several problems I'm working to overcome, not the least of which is the low candlepower of the stock bulbs. ...
