My 37 had steel channel running for and aft with a welded plate to bolt to the spring u bolts and a piece of flat bar running across between the inner bumper bolts welded to the channel with a tab....

Thanks Pete, yes I have one of those somewhere, I didn't realise that it was a mostly UK, NZ. All our NZ assembled cars came from Canada, maybe it is a Canadian made pump.

I would have a look at the wire to the electric fuel pump.
If that is shorting intermitenttly your ammeter would move to discharge and the pump would stop pumping fuel.

1954 Victoria welded chassis plates
My 1954 Victoria has steel plates welded to the under side of the center section of both chassis rails.
Is this how they came from the factory?
