Re: Condenser

I use Vertex magneto condensers - usually the bigger one of the two. They are expensive, but have worked well for me for years.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

The original gasket (if there) was super-thin - like paper thickness. If you have a rebuild kit with a thicker gasket, don't use it. I saw some kits from Speedway with a big thick gasket (like .016...

Re: Pictures after head swap (hot rod content)

Now you need original Rajay spark plug ends on those wires. ;)

Re: Pictures after head swap (hot rod content)

Hey Tim, curious as to why you swapped over to Eddy heads? Was it to match the intake and have both from Edelbrock? Did you have any issues with the Cyclone heads?

Re: Evans Aluminum Heads

Edelbrock changed their chambers in their "modern" head quite a few years ago. Truthfully I liked their original cast chambers better. But, they are milling the valve pockets way deep - probably to...

Re: Evans Aluminum Heads

The chambers appear to be quite big over the transfer area - so compression will be down as compared to many other heads, but flow will probably be good. In the end, it will probably make no...

Re: Evans Aluminum Heads

If these are the NEW ones that are on places like eBay, they are a modern product - the chambers are very different from the originals.

From looking at the pictures, they appear to be well made,...

Re: Evans Aluminum Heads

Post some pictures of the combustion chambers - many of us can tell just by looking at them whether or not we'd recommend using them.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Are they any different as far as the length of the shaft (from the mounting face) or in the type of bendix used?

Re: 8Ba with Big Cam idle/hg

I second what Tim says - a great looking engine and very well sorted out engine compartment. Very nicely done!

Re: Timing advance plate - Crab Distributor

I'm with 38 - usually I have to advance the timing and I always have timing marks on my pulleys (when I build engines). Usually, I try to get to 24 degrees (total) and that takes at least a few...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

There are starters with the thicker front cast part and ones with the thinner front cast part. Seems to me the ones with the thinner plates were later on . . . but I don't know for sure. I have...

Re: Timing advance plate - Crab Distributor

I think that is what it is supposed to be . . . but I always have a TDC marker and an adjustable timing light to know what I'm really getting. I don't trust the distributor, the slot in the cam or...

Re: 8Ba with Big Cam idle/hg

Looks like you should have about 25 degrees total advance - all in early. That part is good, though as FlatJack noted, you could lower the mechanical and add some initial timing. The max you want...

Hey Ol' Ron - That was a Potvin 400 Climax if I recall . . . I don't have a single Crane cam in my stash! LOL

Re: Crane 400 Cam and a AL-1 cam

Interesting Story on Harvey Crane: Most of us remember the "cam wars" and it is easy to have the impression that guys like Harvey Crane and Ed Iskenderian must have had little respect for each...

Re: Crane 400 Cam and a AL-1 cam

I used to run a cam that Tom Hutchinson called the "Awful Awful". It was a .450 lift flat tappet grind that Erson once made. Somehow I "lost" the damn thing over the years - have looked for it many...

Hey Rock . . . checked that 'Leak Lock' stuff out . . . looks like a great product for an application like this - ordered a 4 - Oz jar of it. Will report back the next time I use it.

Does anybody actually have one of these cams? I'd love to replicate it or try it!
