Re: Idle Mixture Screw
Yes, that is correct.
[QUOTE=Rob Doe;2315235]Shew01:
With the wiper line hooked up, you turned the idle air adjustment screw full in and the car continues to run (as it should not)....

Re: Idle Mixture Screw
That is true, but it should be an issue this time for me. I replaced everything from the shutoff valve to the carburetor. I added a filter on the shutoff valve as well.

I need to go back and do that. I didn’t use a torque wrench.

Idle Mixture Screw
Thanks for the feedback about the spark plug color. I think I’ll leave the mixture alone and check in a thousand miles or so.
The is the first time I’ve ever tried to adjust the mixture.

Re: Idle Mixture Screw
Thanks for the post. I recall stories about “blowing out the carbon” from when I was a kid, but I never really thought about that for Model As. I actually thought that might have been mostly an...

Re: Idle Mixture Screw
Roughly how miles will it take to “color” the plugs lean or rich? 25? 100?

Re: Idle Mixture Screw
Somewhere I read that it’s better to run the carburetor a little rich instead of a little lean. Can someone explain the rationale behind that?

Idle Mixture Screw
Hmmm… Part of my problem was that the rebuilt carburetor bottomed out on the idle screw setting, and I could not set the idle lower than 550 (or so) RPM.
I had to bend the control shaft to get...

Car Will Not Pull Under Load
Seasoned Model A mechanics probably wouldn’t have had a problem with this, but I’m posting in case a newbie experiences a similar issue and runs across this post.
My old carburetor started leaking...

1930 Fordor Wood
Thanks for the response, JayJay. I went to see the car today. It was a good price for what it is. However, one fender is cracked, and the windshield header may be rotten. A couple of tacks were...

1930 Fordor Wood
I plan to look at a 1930 Fordor today for potential purpose. The car looks like it’s in good shape, except for the roof, which will likely need to be replaced at some point. From the pictures, no...

Re: Idle Mixture Screw
I sprayed WD-40 around the obvious joints (carburetor mount, intake manifold vacuum port, intake manifold/block joints) but I didn’t see any change in idle speed.

Yes, I had the timing advanced. I thought I read that somewhere. I’ll need to read the owners manual again.

Re: Idle Mixture Screw
Oh, okay. Like I said, I’m a newbie on fuel systems. Thanks.
With the vacuum gauge attached to the manifold, the engine did want to stall when closed to near zero. I didn’t see signs of stalling...

Re: Idle Mixture Screw
How many miles will it likely take before I should check the plugs for carbon? If it’s rich, will it show up immediately on the plugs? Or will it take a while?

Re: Idle Mixture Screw
The wiper vacuum line itself does not seem to have a leak. I don’t know how to test the wiper body itself. This is 3 turns open measured at the wiper vacuum line at the wiper body.

There may be a slight vacuum leak in the wiper. When I warmed up the engine and idled at 500, I took this video. Is this helpful? This video is with the idle mixture screw 1-1/2 turns open. With the...
