Re: model a engine
Exactly, In 1960 I bought a 1929 Model A that the engine had already been bored .080 oversize. Not many stock Model A engines left from nearly 100 years ago that have not had something done to them.

Re: 5/24 A of the day photo
Neat fabrication work. Check out the scroll work on the fender too. Might be a reflection but it looks like surface scrolling.

Re: Rear main options
You can also have the block align bored for insert bearings. There is a man in Waxahachie Texas that does this procedure.

Re: valve guide question
With .002 interference you stand a chance of cracking the block when you try to press the valve guide in, I think .0005 oversize would be a better press fit. I used green Loctite (bearing and stud...

Re: Clutch Plate Bolt question
The flywheel is cast but not cast iron. They are cast steel, a totally different alloy. The threads have more than likely been stripped from over tightening, bolt being cross threaded, or some other...

Re: cam lube
Just a stock Model A engine bored .080. Stock cam, counterbalanced crank, stock head, so no high cylinder pressure and low pressure springs. I am not sure of the cam material but I suspect it is...

cam lube
I am ready to assemble my block and wonder if I need to use Moly lube on my cam lobes and the bottom of the lifters? Or is regular assembly lube good enough?

Re: Fans
They could be checked for bad rivets or cracked blades, if they are OK they are safe to use on an engine.

Re: oversize head gasket
That is what I was afraid of. If my pistons extend above the bore, I am thinking of turning a small chamfer on the top edge of each so the piston would not hit the gasket.

Re: oversize head gasket
1/16 of an inch is .062. That would be approximately .030 off of each side. .080 would be .040 off of each side.

oversize head gasket
My extra block that has all machine work done is bored .080 oversize. I bought the copper head gasket and it barely fits over the bore of each cylinder. I mean the openings are almost line to line...

Re: Snyder's New Catalog Came...and a Warning!
Take heed, I suggest buying everything you need or might need from swap meet vendors. That is how many of the older guys that sold NOS or good used started out. Stacy Brown from Arlington Texas would...

Re: Ads
I have been getting the same thing for at least a month. I had another thread about this at that time and it was poo-poo'd off so I just delete the offending ads.

Re: valve recession
The valves are not stock. they have straight stems so shortening them is not a problem. Adjustable lifters too. All of the other valves are above the block surface.

Re: valve recession
Good info to give to my machinist. I always lap valves just enough to leave a grey ring on the valve face. An old timer told me once to take a lead pencil and mark the seat with it, if the valve...
