s/w subframe question

I am beginning to build my speedster bow tail on a stock sub-frame with a 31 s/w cowl. The front extension part is completely rotted away. I was looking at replacing then but I have heard that the s/w has many s/w only parts, it the sub-frame extension one of these? Can I get away with one of the repos that are out there?

I'm not sure what you are referring to, my S/W has an all steel body. I guess you could refer to the bottom of the body as a sub frame, but that does fit you question. Could you post a picture of what you want info on?

Re: s/w subframe question

I think I know what you're asking, and yes, those front extensions are available and they come in two pieces for each side. drill out the old rivets and take pictures and measurements. Keep things straight when installing them. It takes a little finessing to get them in just right, but I'm thankful they have them to buy. I did a little welding on mine too. This is a 160-B Town sedan, March of 1931 flat firewall type. Have your floorboards ready to use as a guide for fitting them too.

Re: s/w subframe question

here is what Vintage Ford website says

"01077-3-3 SUB RAIL EXTENSIONS 1930-31 These run from the front of the door opening to the firewall. Also supports the floorboards. They attach to the front of the main sub-rails. 1930-31. Set for left and right. 21A P.204 Will not fit victoria body style, modification required"

what should i expect for a modification?

Re: s/w subframe question

The sub rail extensions I got were for my car and I don't modify much at all. Redesigning cars is way over my head. You may need to contact the hot rod boys on this one.
