thats a lot of money for a tool that the home restorer wont use that often, harbor frieght sells one for less than a $100 and it works real goog, i have used one and it does the job well, if your a shop the $400 one is probably what you need

Here is the guy again that knows nothing about this sort of thing. What do you use a "stud" welder for? Not trying to be "smart" I just don't know and have never used anything like this.

Two things actually, the stud is welded to the inside of a dent and then the puller is used to pull the dent out. The unit can also be used to heat an area to cause it to shrink.

using the stud welder means you dont have to drill holes in the metal and insert a sheet metal screw in the hole to pull out the dent with the slide hammer, no holes, no welding them shut, a piece of advice of advice on using the stud welder, use a big pair of wire cutters to remove the studs, grip the head of the stud and twist back and forth to remove it, all that will be left will be a small bit of metal that can easily be sanded off, try not to use the slide hammer to bang the dent out, try pulling on the stud with it, most of the time the dent will come out and not leave a pucker( high top pucker) if you cant pull it out that way then use the slide hammer tool to bang it out

I had a mac tools stud welder for 10 years cost me $400 when it went out I went to harber freight and bought theres I see no difference in the operation between the two. I was told by a coworker that did some reserch on these and he said there are only 3 companies that make these and everyone just puts there name on it.

Fred and others who don't know what a Stud gun is, click on the link below and read the Description Paragraph. I also use it to fill holes that someone has drilled in the body, and Shrink Dents.
Again the Harbor Freight Tools come up again, but for my Pocket Book, and how much I use it, The HF Gun works for Me.

I got a HF model a few years ago for about $109.95, and it was money well spent.

lol, that instructor needs a little more training on the use of the stud gun, you dont cut the nail off and the head welded to the metal, you take the wire cutters, side cutters, or dykes, whatever you call them, grab the head of the nail and twist back and forth and the nail will pop off and not leave a piece welded to the metal which will need to be ground off
