Speedster plans and ideas.... I have looked at the speedster kits that the major vendors sell but is there an alternative? I think that I could do my own woodwork and come up with something different but I am looking for ideas or online resources. I am not interested in going fast or hill climbing. Is there a good source for period correct speedster photos. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Speedster plans and ideas.... Deluxe Coupe Chris .......................
You are at the right place. Go through the "T" MODEL RACING THREAD and also the OLD FORD PICTURES THREAD. There will be plenty of ideas there for you. These are all from "the day". MIKE :) |

Re: Speedster plans and ideas.... Chris,
There are a number of Speedsters on the Northwest Speedsters web site that may give you some ideas. That site is: http://www.nwvs.org/. I have attached a couple of pictures of our speedster. You can also see pictures on my profile. The "Boattail" is fabricated from two 49 International Hoods. I have seen thes hoods for sale on ebay. They fit nicely, and are flat to join together better than som other hoods. Let me know if you have any other questions. Bob |

'Just remembered, I've got one of those "made-from-two-hoods" speedster bodies that we are removing to install an Olympic Speedster body. Here are a couple pics. Call or email me for price. It still belongs to the customer. A young feller was interested in it, but my computer self-erased and I lost his contact info.

Re: Speedster plans and ideas.... I guess it's time that I stop lurking around the forum and start contributing.
I'm currently putting together a speedster. I've been collecting pictures, plans, & parts for about a year. The plan is to make a fenderless type of speedway looking car. One thing I have found is that the term "speedster" means alot of different things depending on who your talking to. Anyways, we just finished assembling the front end, now we're figuring out the method of underslinging it that will work best for us. I have pictures and videos if anyone is interested. |
Re: Speedster plans and ideas.... Hello;
The Adirondack Model A club, Upstate New York is getting ready to do another youth model A build. Look to start in October. Our club has voted to do a speedster, need any and all help with design for a boat tail version. my work number is 888-869-3535 or use my e-mail address [email protected] Thank you in advance. |
Re: Speedster plans and ideas.... Most are boring. Use a real row boat or something. Maybe a wickerwork body (been done already) or that clear plastic, what do they call it? plexiglass? tinted plexiglass for colour

Re: Speedster plans and ideas.... Check out this old auction on ebay....#320742082680 I tried to copy photo but, it didn't work.This one has "the look"

Re: Speedster plans and ideas.... The most important thing is to do it! Think of all the fun you are missing worring about what your "friends" will think. Join the local Model T or A club. They welcome fresh meat! Get a sheet of plywood and start in. Do the firewall (the Ts call it the dash board) and the floor. Stain it or paint it. Bolt a couple of bucket seats and a gas tank on it and go have fun. On you next one you can get fancy. Almost no one has just one. I know it's a little late to start tonight, but first thing in the morning! Good luck- have fun!

The yellow and blue one shows up at the Jalopy Showdown near Dillsburg, PA... an aquaintence posted the photo on her facebook page. Cool little speedster.
The black and white photos were taken near the corner of 3rd and division streets in Harrisburg, PA a long time ago... this speedster was built by a former co-worker's uncle. Alas, Bob has left this world, so I don't know much more about the car, but then again, neither did he. Nice speedster body regardless. |
Re: Speedster plans and ideas.... retro54, the Blue and Yellow one is very nice looking and it appears to be built on a Model A chassis. The two old photos shows some great sheet metal work done back in that time period.

Re: Speedster plans and ideas.... Thomas, agreed, the #3 car is a model a... but still gives an idea as to what a speedster can be in its simplest form.
