'34 Vicky checking in Does anyone have the link to the thread that was posted two years ago, where the member posted the history and pictures of the V8 Flathead? I've got a '34 Vicky, and am just getting back into working on it. My son and I pulled the motor out this past weekend and have just recieved the Stumpfy bracket, so we're ready to start the adventure. A lot of questions..... Thanks.

Re: '34 Vicky checking in I loaded some pictures into my album with some descriptions. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Re: '34 Vicky checking in Do you have the Early Ford V-8 Club's 33-34 Ford Restoration manual? That book will help you a lot, especially if you are looking at a total original restoration. You can purchase the book on the V-8 Club's website; www.earlyfordv8.org

Re: '34 Vicky checking in I was a member a couple of years ago, but let my membership run out due to other obligations, etc.... Thanks for the tip, though.

Re: '34 Vicky checking in I finally got the RH head off this afternoon. It was much harder than the LH, stuck on the front studs, for the most part. It is a different picture on this side. Now the story is coming together a little more.
Next Saturday I plan to pull the pan off and see what we've got in there. I'm sure the babbit bearings are present, which might make it more of a challenge in cleaning out the water jackets using a dip method. They are pretty clogged up on this motor. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks. Chris. |
Re: '34 Vicky checking in I have a chance to give a little update, if you're interested. The LH head has two cast-in number sets on it. The main part number if 68-6050B, which I have found was aftermarket, 90Hp, for domed pistons from '36. The other tag reads "3-22-48", which I believe to be a date code from when it was originally cast for service.
Funny thing though is, the pistons are flat-topped in the block. So, this must have been running pretty low compression! The RH head has only the Ford logo and "USA" cast into it. It was a real bear to take off, like I said, and I ordered some KROIL to soak the studs so they can be replaced during the re-build. From what I can tell, the combustion chambers appear to be the same as the LH head. I'll have to research that a little more. Incidentally, I drove the car into my barn last summer after having it run for a bit, and it ran OK. There was quite a bit of blowby, though, through the breather. Thanks for the great information on the site. |
