1950 Ford transmission to small block chevy What does it take to attach a sbc to a 1950 Ford overdrive transmission?
I'm not asking about exhaust manifolds or dropped tierods or back bumper bolts, just what is needed to attach the SBC to the Ford transmission. |
Re: 1950 Ford transmission to small block chevy Why? Surely you aren't going to ruin a Classic Ford by putting an inferior engine in it.

Re: 1950 Ford transmission to small block chevy You should expect to not be received warmly when asking such a question on this forum. Many will tell you that the HAMB is a better place for SBC in a Ford. (You can go to "Forum Jump" at the bottom of this page and click on "hot rods and customs." If you're not a member of the HAMB, signing up there is just like signing up here.) Anyway, heres a link that should help you figure out what you want...

Re: 1950 Ford transmission to small block chevy as long as your not doing burnouts your trans should last as long as if a flat head was in front of it

Re: 1950 Ford transmission to small block chevy I would consider putting in a matching automatic tranny.

Re: 1950 Ford transmission to small block chevy don't do it unless you like the sound of BOOM. T-5 is a much better choice. just an opinion...jack

Re: 1950 Ford transmission to small block chevy Not an exact answer, but here's my suggestion... Call Wilcap Company, and ask. Wilcap/Sharp makes adapter's for almost anything. There is a really helpful gentleman, Mr Grant, who usually answers the phone, and he will likely know the answer.
805-481-7639 Pismo, CA Off subject, however... And, BTW... I disagree about the T-5. I can break them at will - a very weak choice, at least in Jeep's with very moderate power. I gather from comments posted here that T-5's work ok behind flathead power. Prudent and conservative driving habits seem to be effective for the T-5, and probably also for the Ford trans. |
Re: 1950 Ford transmission to small block chevy I appreciate the helpful comments
