Bumper bracket question.

I have a 1935 Ford 5W Coupe. The bumper bracket that I have currently installed are the ones you can buy from places like Dennis Carpenter and CW Moss. But they stick the bumper out way to far. I have a friend who has a 1935 Convertible and his bring the bumper back in. they are alot narrower than mine. I ask where he purchased them and he thought he got them at Dennis Carpenter. DC says they dont carry any but the ones that I have. So my question is does anyone know if they made a different bracket for convertibles or know where I can find a shortened version?
Thanks for the help.

I ordered a set from Mac's today. He said they wern't shortened. Hopefully these will be right. However I think they will be the same as what I have.

Contrary to the photo and the Bob Drake text as Rear Bumper Brackets, they are front bumper brackets in the photo.

Do you have a spare tire mounted on the rear of your car ?

Without one, the bumper does appear to stick out rather far from the body as does mine..... but I haven't mounted my spare yet.

Just a thought.

Re: Bumper bracket question.

35 and 36 rear brackets are ALMOST the same. 35's are straight across if you lay them on a flat surface. 36's have a slight (about 1/2 inch) bend down on the outer end of the bracket. The bent over part of the bumper has a different angle 35 Vs 36. Just FYI the front brackets have the different bend too.

The brackets both measure about 9 1/2 inches out on the inner portion and, on my 36, that puts the end of the bumper about 2" from the rear fender.

I have 35's on my car now and will swap them out for a pair of real 36's sometime soon. If your interested in the 35's I'll sell them for $100.

No I dont have a spare on the trunk, and your right that is what makes it stick out so much. It looks awful to me. Just not semetrical at all.

Why aren't you advertising for a set of originals in the want ads?

For awhile there was somebody making a shorter rear biumper bracket for the 35-36 cars. You might check some of the street rod suppliers like Yogi's etc.

Bob Drake does sell both stock and shortened rear brackets - they also can be had in either plain or stainless. The part# in the link above is correct I think, but obviously the picture is in error.

I have enclosed a photo of my original 1935 Ford Cabriolet Bumper Bracket.
There is about a 10" space between the bumper and the rear of the body. It would look pretty wide, without a rear mounted spare tire.

Yea that is the one that I have. I want one that will bring the bumper back closer to the body. But I would love to know if you have another passenger tailight stand. those are hard to find as well.
