Adjustable lifters
 

As most of you guy know I hardly ever use adjustable lifters. But this customer wants adjustable lifters. The last set I used was a couple of yr's ago and I got them from Red,s headers. They were made in Austrailer (spelling), they were good lifters, the screws all had the right tention and I liked them. I understand Red,s don't sell them anymore. Question, doe's anybody know who sell them in USA? Has anyone used Speedway lifters, they say in the book made in USA? THanks Walt

From what I have been told from Jerry at Schneider's, they supply Red's Headers with the adjustable lifters.The phone number at Schneider Cams is 619-297-0227. I had a set ordered from Schneider's and when I picked them up, in the box was instructions from Red's. Hope this helps.

Walt,
As I am sure you know, make sure you drill holes in the lifter bores before you get the block baked and cleaned.

Hey John. Yea, I drill all my blocks incase the owner wants to use adjustables some time. I have a long drill I made special. It only takes a few min to drill them. Walt

I bought a set from Dennis Carpenter this spring. The people at the sales counter assured me they were made in the U.S.A. they gave me the name of the company but can't remember their name now....CRS :confused::rolleyes:

When I bought and used Red's adjustables he actually offered three types or sources of lifters . My Red's catalog is dated 2003 but for years he advertised in Hemming's etc hollow lifters as "these are the good ones" they were $208 a set. He also offered the solid ones that some call the Ford tractor lifters at $139.00 set and he offered the Flatattack hollow adjustables at $225.00 a set. The ones I bought ,"the good ones",were very tough to adjust,tougher than the wrenches,good because hopefully they will stay put. I would call Red's and ask them what they now offer ,or since he sold the business Red Hamilton himself,he is in the V8 Club roster. Personally if I had the opportunity to have Walt Dupont fit stems for clearance it would be a no brainer.

Here's another tip in case you want to buy some insurance with your adjustables after you get them run in that maybe some can use. If you go to your local drug store, you can ask for some hypodermics that do not have needles. I think they use them to give dosages orally to kids. I use them to put some green Loctite on the threads.

I went to the local cowboy ranch supply store and got a couple nice 60ml hypodermics and then bought a couple real big guage needles to go with them. The needles are about 5 - 6 inches long.

When I got them back home, I ran a piece of wire through them and filed the points off them until they were rounded on the ends. They make great oilers that are stiff and can reach into those real small places. I have some smaller ones too for things like backs of guages, radio dials, etc. They give such a little amount you cannot over oil fine parts.
Beats putting a drop of oil on a piece of wire and trying to reach into those places. just sayin'

walt the best lifters are flatattack however reds headers has the other good ones made in usa

If the solid valves are installed properly and adjusted properly as ford intended there is no need for adjustable lifters. Why go the added expence and problems?

I think some folk just like to have certain things done or made a certain way whether it's good, bad, or indifferent.

Unfortunately, adjusting the valve lash the old fashion way is a lost art. It gets more complicated when you use an aftermarket cam with a smaller base circle. At this point in time there is only one man in the entire worls that can do this. Walt Dupont. And he'll do it for less than the price of adj lifters.

I just want to state that the two master flathead builders of the northeast have spoken here. These two know their stuff. I've had the oportunity to run both versions. The adustables are more applicable if there are numerous cam changes, AKA race motors. For steet motors set it once and forget it. In its normal life a street motor will not get lifter noise. JMO.
