My 1930 Huckster Van is Finished 15 Attachment(s)
Well another Model A is saved, even if it wears different apparel. After 4 Summers of part time work on the A, it is Finally 95% Finished. I am Happy with the Way it turned out. It Runs and drives great. I have had every Part of it apart, cleaned, replaced, or rebuilt. Including Engine, Drive Line, Steering. Brakes etc. I also did all Rust Removal, Mechanical work, Body work, Carpenter work, Powder Coating and Spray Painting My-Self. Total cost for the Restoration Dollar wise, not counting my Labor was $2,500
Next Tues, it will be Registered, with Historical Plates, then YOM Plates. It will be insured through Hagerty. This winter I will transport it to use in Florida. Below are some Photos, more are in my Profile. http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/member.php?u=3977 |
Re: My 1930 Huckster Van is Finished I just finished my huckster with the Hudson Wagon Works plans, it is open on the sides but I do like the look of that glass. You have done a very fine job (better then mine for sure) and I hope you get the joy of driving the daylights out of it.

Re: My 1930 Huckster Van is Finished Great job Joe. Great looking huckster. You did a great job based on how much you spent doing the job. With my huckster, I think I added a 0 on the right side of your investment figure for mine.

Re: My 1930 Huckster Van is Finished Joe,
Looks nice. I'm curious what kind of wood did use for sides, is it ash or Oak, and what finish? Also, does the driver seat hinge up adn if so what is the purpose of that? I too bought the wagon works DVD but am still trying to think the project through and get motivated to get started on a '29 huckster. Thanks, Rick |
Re: My 1930 Huckster Van is Finished Quote:
I would use Solid Oak Boards, Biscuit Joint them, Clamp and Glue together. The sides are only 2ft wide by 6ft long. Of course I bought the Oak from a local Saw Mill, air dried 2 yrs old, It would cost a arm and a leg from Lowe's or Home Depot. And they don't carry full 2 inch you need in some places. The Seat, I used a rear seat out of a Dodge Mini Van, the size is perfect for the Model A, Plus in has Seat Belts built in it. I hinged it to Store Tools, Hydraulic Jack and spare parts and place to store Registration, Ins. Papers in a Plastic Container. Also, in NY State You have to Register the Car with Historic Plates, then I will Use YOM Plates of 1930 Vintage, Ive been already approved to use them. You have to carry the Original Historical Plates with the Vehicle when you use the YOM's. It also made a great place to Install the Kill Switch, even though I Fused Every thing, next I will install a Power Outlet for GPS, in the Riser. I converted to a 12 volt Neg Ground GM Alternator 1 Wire, You can Purchase A 63 amp New one, that is even Chrome Plated, for $51 Dollars, I built my own mounting bracket. Click on my Profile and check out all the Photos of the Seat and Build, I should have taken a bunch of the Woodworking, to help you guys out. Any other Questions I will answer anybody by your Profile address, I hope I haven't taken up a lot of bandwidth here, but Rick has asked good Questions, that others may never know the Answers to! |
Re: My 1930 Huckster Van is Finished Joe, your huckster does look great.
Thank you for giving the type of finish you used. After a couple of years now, my huckster, made out of red oak, is starting to show some black spots in the oak wood. The fellow that made the body recommended using an Armstrong (I think that is it) type of flook finish to treat it once or so a year. Here in rainy old Oregon, that is something needed. But I may try your type of finish and see how it works. Maybe do a small spot at a time. Thanks again for your posts. It is interesting to hear all the things you did to get your rig finished. |
