So many A's -- So Little Time Something positive here.:)
I have been reading the new S/O 2012 MAFCA Restorer magazine and came across the speech that Edsel Ford II gave at the Marquette national meet. It is a very good speech. I think it was great that Mr. Ford would take the time to attend the meet and give the speech. In the speech Mr. Ford says ""there are over 250,000 Model A's still on the road today.............with another 750,000 or so waiting restoration." That tells me that you guys better quit wasting time on the computer and get to work in the garage! Everybody has at least three more restorations to complete if they are to do their part, three more for every driven Model A that they now own. I hope an over achiever will want to do a few of my quota. :) |
Re: So many A's -- So Little Time agreed, But i'm doing my part with the 31 Tudor and 30 Roadster that I rescued last year after being stored away for 15 years. Both have seen good miles this year and made people come over to look at them and ask questions. Now if I can just find a 3 car garage I would continue.

Re: So many A's -- So Little Time I wonder how many of those A's are brand new parts? 20% of the A's produced being still around sounds like a pretty high ratio to me. I'm not buying it.... :)
On that note, I would expect a ratio total of about 5%. |
Re: So many A's -- So Little Time I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't over a million model A's still in existance. Even the smallest, wide spot in the road little towns have at least three that are known of and probably others stashed out in barns and languishing in the woods.

Re: So many A's -- So Little Time The one million figure is what I've heard quoted many times. We've located over 200 of them in the frozen wastelands of the north (Alaska) and more keep popping up all the time.
|
Re: So many A's -- So Little Time Most of them would be fibreglass.

Re: So many A's -- So Little Time I if i had a bigger garage and a little more understanding wife i would have 3 more cars . I can only hope to win the lottery.

Re: So many A's -- So Little Time Garage space is the limiting factor, for sure!!
|
Re: So many A's -- So Little Time I have just finished my first... I've got 20ft of open garage space and about 50 more years of restoration so I'm hopeful to do my part. Also... the guy who got me into Model A's started with a one car garage, filled the roof with parts, built a 25 x 25 then built a two story 3 stall garage for the Model A's, he is holding onto enough parts to build a good army of them.

I have a patent reply for folks of this bent - I ask them "how they would like it if someone came along, ripped out their heart, replacing it with a Gould's Jet-pump, and cut 4 or 5 inches out their arms and legs, right in the middle of the limb ?" The usual response is stunned silence... and they walk away. Good for you, Paul, saving another Flivver from the hands of evil-doers ! ;) SC Frank |

Curious how much better is the Model A world is now that you've saved it? It could mean that there will be some original parts available to make my car more correct. How good are the fenders, there is a shortage of useable '30-'31 fronts? PM any available. Fred A |
Re: So many A's -- So Little Time I've done 5 since 1970 and am working on the 6th. Probably the last one.
|
Re: So many A's -- So Little Time I have five now and don't see an end in sight. all but one were basket casees and one is almost put back together.all were saved from the scraper.
|
Re: So many A's -- So Little Time I have read that the "average" Model A enthusiast has three Model A's. I'm sure your better half wants you to be "above average"! There are six in my shop. Gar Williams
