38 pick up spare tire mounting Could anyone post a picture of how the spare tire mounting post & bracket are mounted to the side of the box. I know I will have to drill holes and don't want to drill them in the wrong spots. Thanks in advance

Re: 38 pick up spare tire mounting 1 Attachment(s)
Check you running board for a hole right behind the cab. Until Ford changed from the "wide five" wheels in 1940 the spare bolted to a post that was bolted thru the running board. A long bolt went thru the bracket and into the bed to stabilize the mount. In 1940 Ford switched to a bracket that was wielded to the side of the bed but still left the hole in the running board.

Re: 38 pick up spare tire mounting I have another bracket attached to mine that comes off of that long bolt. Does it get attached to the box as well? Does it go to the side of that bolt or up or down?

Re: 38 pick up spare tire mounting I have a spare mount that I got from e bay for my 39 Ford PU. It has only the mount that goes through the right side running board. Did early models have supplemental braces and some not? What is correct for 1939?

Re: 38 pick up spare tire mounting 1 Attachment(s)
Best shot I have archived of the 38 spare tire mount. Sorry I don't have one closer. Later I can take more or a measurement for you. I have the tire on now also, oh and a cab.
One through the runningboard and a support tube that bolts to the bed. https://fordbarn.com/forum/attachment...0&d=1342973577 |
Re: 38 pick up spare tire mounting 2 Attachment(s)
Okay a couple more. Side bolts to the bed frame. Base to bracket through running board.

Re: 38 pick up spare tire mounting Perfect. Your second picture shows exactly what I was looking for. You also have that extra bracket & it shows the correct orientation. Thanks so much

It also shows I have some body work to do. :] |
Re: 38 pick up spare tire mounting Does anyone have a photo of a 1939 Ford pickup that shows how the running board spare tire bracket is bolted to the frame under the tub?
