Any opinions on American Collectors Insurance?
 

Are there any opinions on American Collectors Insurance, located at:

I'm a bit familiar with Grundy and Hagerty, but would like to know about any good or bad experiences with American Collectors Insurance.

I've used them for the old stuff for over 30 years.. No problems,, but,, have had no reason for a possible problem.. Their prices were reasonable, but, now tend to increase every year..

If you have USAA by any chance, go through them. They have a separate classic car branch that has great service. I have my '70 Chevelle insured through them and at a ridiculous low price with great benefits.

I've had American Collectors for years and they have been great. Very receptive, you actually get a live person when you call. Have always had good luck with them.

AC is an offshoot of Condon and Skelly. There were together years ago....

I have USAA and they sent me to American Collectors. I haven't had any issue with them, never had to make a claim. Thank heavens. They don't seem to have any restrictions and we have a fair replacement value. However, they wouldn't insure my Vic project, not sure why now.

I also have USAA and they directed me to American Collectors. Their rates seem very reasonable to me. I have not had any need to file a claim, so I don't know how quickly they settle claims.

I have had Amerian Collector's for about 10 years, no complaints and no claims. They are not the least expensive, but easy to do business with and I do have an 'Agreed Value' with them.

I have had them for the past few years. Just insuring my almost finished roadster PU with them, BUT I go through my local, independent insurance agent. Why, because he took a look at other antique car insurers for me. I gave him the parameters that I wanted to drive my As whenever and wherever I wanted to, including to work. He said AC allowed everything I asked for. He found several others that were quite restricted.
So I value my cars based on either an appraisal, or using The Old Car Price Guide magazine.
I have been happy with them, good pricing, though I have not had a claim. However by going through my local, independent insurance agent I know he will fight for me when the time comes.

I have had American Collectors for at least 15 years. I had one claim and it was handled fast and fair. I have 7 cars with them now and their prices are fair, their agreed value is great and they are very pleasant to deal with. I would highly recommend them. I deal directly (no agent) and am very happy with them.

Thanks for the replies. Being an ex-military guy, I was referred to them by USAA. I will seriously consider using American Collectors Insurance (ACI). Their quote was about $50 per year higher than Grundy. I was a little bit concerned that my quote from ACI does include a comment about driving a maximum of 2500 miles per year; I would like to see how much it costs to raise this up a bit, to about 3500 miles per year, just to be safe.

I just got the quote emailed to me; 'haven't called them yet to discuss the details. I will ask if they require yearly odometer readings.

How Much? $$$$ I've been ready to go with Grundy until I read this. Grundy quoted $171 with a $15000 value. Then I saw another person who was paying $60+ per year.
What should I pay?

One thing to look at is the towing or roadside assistance. They have three levels of coverage. If you get a quote on line they always use the highest level of service (which I liked by the way). You can change it to a lower level of service for less money.

Premiums are based on your stated, or appraised value. I insured my unrestored town sedan for what it cost me to buy it. After I restore it I will insure it for more, obviously, and my premium will reflect that.
A word of caution. A very good friend lost 7 of his antique cars in a garge fire the winter before last. They were totally scrap metal when the building and everything burned totally. The insurance company paid him the values he had set on them. BUT he realized when he went to replace them with "like" cars (2 Model As and 1 Model T, etc) that he hadn't kept up with car values. It cost him more to replace them than what he had them insured for. Remember hope the best and insure for the worst.

I didn't realize they were through USAA. Guess that's a good thing because it's been so long since I signed with them and I haven't needed them I forgot their name. They did NOT require an odometer reading, nor do they inquire about it later. I asked her about the 2,500 mile limit as well and she told me they don't check. Don't know why they even have it but I wasn't complaining. I have my '70 Chevelle insured for 25k at the moment and will increase it as work progresses.
