Choke rod question.
 

Hi All, recently acquired a decent 1930 fordor. It has been sitting a long long time. I think it qualifies as a survivor. It's mostly original, and untouched. It runs and drives, but needs some loving. It has a tilly carb on it, and the choke rod is not hooked up. I can't figure out how to hook this thing up. Maybe I'm missing a part or something ? Could someone explain ? Maybe post a picture ?

Orgo , your best bet is to get a parts book from Bratton's and buy what you see and need...A well done parts book . you have a rod , a spring , a chock rod sleeve , 3 grommets [ 1 on the gas tank , the firewall has 1 metal cup washer with a leather washer . At the end of the chock rod on the carb. you need carb. adj. needle driver and air shutter lever. Or from SNYDER'S parts you can buy your parts...

I have all that stuff, but can't for the life of me figure out how to connect the choke rod to the needle driver ? I could come up with something to make it work, but would like to do it the proper way.

There's a notch in the end of the choke rod and a corresponding one on the carb, just put then together and
slide the sleeve down to hold them together.

Starting inside the cab, slide the choke rod through the tank bracket, which should have a rubber grommet, then through the firewall. Now go under the hood and install the leather washer, then the thin steel washer against the leather, then the spring, then the steel tube with the flare against the spring. Push the steel tube up to compress the spring while you hook the end of the choke rod to the carb, then let the spring push the tube down to keep the ends locked together. Now you should be able to pull for choke and turn for gas mixture.

Ok, I tired that, and it worked for a couple days, but comes apart after that. Maybe just a lot of wear on it or something.

How does it come apart ?? Even Mother Nature[gravity] would probably keep the sleeve in place.. But, its like Tom said, spring tension will keep the sleeve over the rod and needle.. Maybe if you post a picture,, we could see what is happening..

I didn't have a chance to look at it last night. Will be on it tonight though. I will see if I can make it work. If not, I will post a pic.

"A picture is worth a thousand words," and we're bumping up around 600 here. Please post a photo of your carburetor (without the choke rod "hooked up") so we can see what you're dealing with.

Ok, here is what I have. I was thinking something might be assembled wrong on this. Works fine at first, but comes apart.

Please disregard the fuel line. That's how I got it.

Why is there a double choke driver?
Remove the top one and slide the choke rod down and couple it to the driver on the carb.

OK, now it seems to make sense.. Like Tom mentioned, it looks as though there are 2 choke drivers.. Remove the whole sleeve assembly.. One the end of the choke rod you will see a notch and on the end of the carburetor needle you will see a similar notch.. The spring then holds down pressure on the sleeve which slides over both choke rod and adjustment needle once the notches and lugs are connected..

It appears (in the last/bottom photo) that the upper choke driver may have been pinned to the choke/GAV rod. Has the rod been modified? How far into the cab (past the gas tank) does your rod extend?

The second choke driver is actually someones half ass attempt at running an oil pressure line into the cab.

I'm in the process of removing the gas tank for cleaning, and repair. So will need to take the whole works apart. I'll get some better pics of it then.

There not talking about the oil line. You have two needle drivers on your choke.
