1928-31 Fordor help

Okay, so now I have a 1931 Fordor body that has no sub frame. Searching high and low for a supplier that sells a sub frame for this body. I’m told [by a guy at work] that all 1928-31 Fordors has a wood sub frame, since these bodies were not made by Ford, but by Murray & Briggs. Is this true? Since I need to fabricate my own rails, I’m thinking of using 1” x 3” or 1” x 4” rect. Tubing. If I go this route, how thick? Also where can I locate dimensions for a fordor sub frame? Thank you, thank you, for any direction on this.

I'd just like to find a drawing somewhere, so that I can make my own...

Each piece that you need plans for is at the Bensen Research Center in Dearborn. Making your own is not that difficult, ...just time consuming.

Brent this is exactly what I needed to see. I already have the wood kit for the body, it is the sub frame that I will fabricate. I went to that site, but I'm not sure exactly what I'm searching for, is there a specific title?

It took forever to find the better quality wood needed for door post. Most of the wood I found localy either had to many knots or the grain was not close enough.

Later when I restored a 28 CCPU I purchased the wood kit instead of making it. It was money well spent. Everything fit together very nice and tight. No cutting or fitting was required.

I can only imagine that with a fordor a good fit is even more important due to the door openings.

From the body wood kit that I have, it all says "#1 FIR" on the wood. Quality stuff

Brent....one important factor...some people have knowledge and talent...and many think they do !! I can relate to my experience in judging. I could spot homemade top bows from twenty feet..three times I was wrong because the restorer had TALENT & KNOWLEDGE.

Since I have absolutely no intentions of even coming near a competition, that will not be a factor for me. Besides, I think [in most cases] it's more personal to build something, than buy it off the shelf. Keeps me out of trouble!
