8CM is Merc from 49 thru early 51. Some Canadian Manufactured stuff has C included in part numbers but the Y in there is a mystery to me.

Sorry I should explain.... I was looking at a set of pistons on the e/bay. Seller stated they fit a flathead 8cy .030 over .I never heard of that 8ca befor and just wanted to know what was going on

He probably means 8 Cyl ---- 8 Cylinder

I saw that too. Never heard of 8CY designation. he alos didn't say if they were 3 1/16 or 3 3/16 +.030.

8cy= 8 cylinder....it`s a common abbreviation...it`s like V8 255c.i .when referring to capacity.

The 3 3/4" stroke (239) & 4" stroke(255) pistons are different so it is important.

I called, they are 3.1/16 + .030 early ford v8..mistery solved .Great starting price for a set of pistons, to bad they were so small
