Rear Wheel bearing removal

Is there an easy way of removing the lock ring that holds the grease seal and bearing in the rear hub? Thanks all, Al

A couple of thin blade screwdrivers and good eye protection
Take small 'bites' with the screwdrivers and slowly work it out of the groove
Good Luck

Exactly how I remove the ring. The tricky part is removing the seal. Don't bother trying to save it, just have a good claw hammer or pry bar and go at it. Many new seals are too tight and will distort if you drive them in. You may have to sand the O.D. to make them fit. Be sure to blow any sanding dust away, then grease the bearing and seal lip. Don't drive the seal in any more than just enough to get the snap ring back in place.

To remove the lock ring, I just knock the seal down a bit, and grab one end of the ring with a needle nose plier. They come out real easy! The seal is a bit more work though, I have a cut off axle that I drop in the hole to below the level of the seal, and then use a crow foot pry bar. That is the easiest way I have found, less than 5 minutes for locking ring and seal.
