49 Tanker 02-25-2012 01:19 AM

Hi Yall,

I just want to say hello. I'm making plans for a 49 ford old liquor car. My great uncle bought it brand new and moved a lil bit liquor back in the day. It's been sitting in the back of my grandpa's barn since 1963. I'm hoping to restore it back to it's haulng days condition. I will go ahead and apologize in advance for any stupid or dumb question I might ask. I'm looking forward to getting to know yall and be part of your community.

Hi Tanker, welcome to the Fordbarn. The guys who post here can give you a lot of helpful info and encouragement to get that shoebox liquor running Ford back among the living. Can you post some pictures of your '49 here for us to take a look at? We always like to see lots of old Ford pictures :). One suggestion would be to put you location in your Avatar so folks can get a good idea of your approximate location. You may even find you have some local neighbors who are working on or maybe have finished a similar project. Ask a lot of questions and most of the folks here will be more than willing to jump right in and help. I have lots of pictures of moonshine runners taken at the Dawsonville Moonshine Festival that i can share with you....in fact you could plug that show name in the search function and get the post with pictures that i put up here. There were some '49 cars at that show that were built for runnin'. Good luck with your car!

Re: Hi Yall,

From one new guy to another, welcome. If you're able to, post some pictures of the old girl - it's always good to see a barn/field car rescued.

Re: Hi Yall,

Tanker, my father ran bootleg during prohibition here in the SF Bay Area. He had a Franklin sedan with a false back seat full of booze, blocks under the rear springs, and truck tires. A house he rented in Oakland had barrels buried in the garage that served as holding tanks. He was never arrested, but told of the time he was "visited" by a revenuer called "Red". They stood in the livingroom talking, while 5 gallon cans of booze stood behind the sofa, (or "Chesterfield" or "Davenport" as they called them in the day).

Ken, What... you never saw Robert Mitchum in "Thunder Road" ???? Get a life, Dude! That's a Cult Classic for Fordophiles!

Re: Hi Yall,

Welcome to the barn Tanker. I always suggest to new guys that they fill in their location in their profile. In your case it might be a bad idea if any Federal Agents are listening in on us.

Re: Hi Yall,

Welcome, Tanker....ask any and all questions....as Bill said, asking what you consider a stupid question could get you an easy answer....and might save you some money.....and hey, my Dad busted a few stills back when here in AZ....lol.....working for the Treasury Dept.....Mike
