Preserving Fasteners
 

What are the best ways to protect/prevent raven finish and other fasteners from rusting on a car thats driven? Are people clear coating them? What are you using?

WD40 is not worth a hoot as a lubricant, but it seems to slow down rust very well.

I went to a lot of trouble refinishing the 3X spark plugs in our Coupe with gun blueing and they rusted almost immediately.

while prepping our Town Sedan for the French Lick trip, I did not have time to fool with blueing, I just cleaned the plugs and coated with WD40. after 2239 often wet miles, they still look GREAT!

You could consider picking up a can of BOESHIELD spray at a marine dealer. It was originally a Boeing product for preserving fasteners and air frames. It even resists salt water environments without leaving an objectionable coating.

The best use for WD-40 is for spraying your points distributor inside and out, it keeps the moisture out and keeps the points from gumming up during winter storage. It also works good cleaning varnish of carbs.

My local boat supply store stocks it, but apparently its available at the Deopt and everywhere else according to this search I just did.
