A "just because" picture.

This is the C59A in my AV8. It is dead stock with the exception of duals and Smithys. It runs 65lbs at startup and drops to about 40lbs when hot. It's backed up with a 36 trans and 47 rear.
Down the track a little I plan to run twin carbs, a set of headers and mill the heads to raise compression a bit. However, it runs pretty good in a light car, so no priority on the mods.

Hey Bassman, I just built a C59A for a guy in Canada. It's the first one i"ve see. Do you know what year that engine is? Is the bore 3-3/16? Does it have 2 core plugs in the each pan rail? Does it pass the pencil test on the front of the block? This was an interisting engine for me. It seemed to be half an early 39-41 block and half 46-48. Thanks Walt

Sometimes I wish I had kept the stock heads. That is really nice!

Walt, it's from a 47 Ford. Here in NZ they used Canadian engines. It is 3 3/16" but I didn't take any notice of the core plugs. It has C59A cast on the block just in front of the left hand head. I've changed the distributor from rabbits ears to crab type. It runs real strong. It also has an 11" clutch which it seems was std here in NZ for 47-48 Fords.

You can tell if it has the core plugs above the pan rail by looking at the side of the block above the pan rail. The early blocks with core plugs have two humps on the side of the block. The later blocks are smooth. G.M.

And the C69A blocks do not have the plugs in the pan rails unlike the C59A blocks. Brian

Bet it scoots pretty good . What's it weigh ? On having 40 # of oil pressure hot - The oil gods like you . On my last summer's wheels 33 -w- 33 motor the oil pressure NEVER reached 10 # hot & it would be 1-2 # at slow idle . . It will peg the old 50 # gauge cold . Runs fine & it got around a bunch last summer . CAM BEARINGS were a HUGE improvement in 1935 .

Bassman, that is the same block I built for a guy in Canada, also the 3 big water holes in the block head gasket surface, the bottom hole had 59 right in the center. I bored this to 3-5/16 and used a Merc 4in. crank and Max 1 cam, 38 heads witch are smaller and the guy is useing a 4bbl carb I think. Walt

Haha I wish. That was taken Christmas Eve, right after taking my wife for the first run in it. She was stoked!
It's currently pissing down here.
