Shock Recommendations? I need some shocks, they were missing from my tudor when I bought it. What do you guys recommend? Who is good at rebuilding them? Seems like I remember Bill Stipe was making new ones? Anybody using them?
Thanks, Will Kimble www.kimblemandolins.com |
Re: Shock Recommendations? I'm sure Bill Stipe's are excellent though pricey. Check out the rebuilt ones from Robert Paul in Colorardo. I have two sets and I'm saving up for a third.

I have physically seen the inside of the Stipe shocks, and he has made a couple of minor changes that has probably improved them over the original design but the biggest reason why I like them is the amount of adjustability in them. This amount is much greater than what I have experienced with rebuilt original ones. What I don't know is whether this is due to everything being back within tolerences, --or whether those mods Bill made are what the difference is. I realize they are expensive and are not for everyone, however I doubt you will ever find anyone dissatisfied with owning a set of the Stipe shocks. |
Re: Shock Recommendations? The advantage of having shocks versus none, is like the ride difference between a car and a baby buggy.
I am sure, particularly with the likes of Brent's statement, that Stipes shocks are better than rebuilt Houdalle's, but the rebuilts are tremendously better than none, and a lot less money if that is a concern. There have been a lot of posts from dissatisfied tube shock owner, particularly the front shocks. I believe the reports reflected tube shocks that were built for a heavier car. |

Re: Shock Recommendations? I am sure that the quality of Bill's shocks are great. Hoping things work out job wise so I can begin buying stuff again. Getting anxious to drive the Delivey some. Rod
