Getting ready to do glass in a '39 sedan Hey fellas... I'm getting ready to put new glass in my 39. Kind of a bitter sweet deal as the glass has never been out of the car before, but it's time - it seems to get foggier on a daily basis.
Anyhow, any advice for me as far as things to do look out for or tricks of the trade? I did the glass in my '38 coupe a decade or so ago and I can't remember any real issues, but thought I would ask.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/p...ctureid=164516 |
Re: Getting ready to do glass in a '39 sedan Good luck, I had a terrible time getting the windshield frame apart! Those little screws were a real pain.

Re: Getting ready to do glass in a '39 sedan Good luck getting the screws out...Let them soak in penetrating oil for a few days. Then, stick the screwdriver in the slot and beat it with a hammer a few times to loosen the cosmic bond between old Ford parts, then cross your fingers.
Also, when you take the old glass to the glass guy, have them make the new glass EXACTLY like the old patterns. Lots of times, the glass guy goes around your old glass with a Sharpie, then trims to the Sharpie line. Guess what?? Your new glass is now too big by an 1/8 all the way around and will not fit in the hole. Ask me how I learned that one... Good luck and see you in August. -Abone. P.S. My first post on the new Fordbarn. Love it. |
Re: Getting ready to do glass in a '39 sedan The only difficulty I can recall, is the back side windows. They were damn near imposable to replace. Finally got them changed but I don't know how! tom...
