Hinge pin replacement

Hi, Barners
Is it better to drill for oversized hinge pins one at time with the door still mounted to the car or is it better to take the hinge apart and do each half
separately?
Many thanks,
Don

Re: Hinge pin replacement

I would say it is better to drill with the hinge on the car. It is what we call Line Drilling in a machine shop. Also I would check the bolts holding the hinge to the car before putting in oversized pins. I had a door dragging on my tudor, started to put the new pins in and realized that the bolts were loose.

Re: Hinge pin replacement

I had to take the upper hinges (and maybe the middle hinges) off of my 29CC to drill them. The drill would hit the hinge pillar and made it so I couldn't get a straight shot into the hinge with the drill bit. If you have a narrow drill motor you may be able to do it.
