Rebuild kit for hydraulic brakes

I am trying to find wheel and master cylinder rebuild kits for a converted Model A. I have tried Clings and others with no luck,
Can anyone give me some info,
Thanks in advance,

Re: Rebuild kit for hydraulic brakes

You need to determine which brakes you have before you can say what you need.

Re: Rebuild kit for hydraulic brakes

You should have either 39 to 42 brakes or 46 to 48 brakes. Determine which you have and you can order the parts at any good parts house.

Re: Rebuild kit for hydraulic brakes

There is about a 95% chance that your brakes are 1939-48. The prewar brakes adjust at the bottom and the sides. The postwar adjust only at the sides. The prewar shoes have a round hole at the bottom of the brake shoe and the postwar shoes have a slot at the bottom for the shoe to move up and down. Post a picture showing the adjustment (or lack of it) at the bottom and someone will id your brakes.

Re: Rebuild kit for hydraulic brakes

IF they are Ford/Merc/Lockheed brakes, the rear wheel cylinders are the same 39-48. The fronts could be 1-1/4" forward piston diameter (39-41) or 1-3/8" forward piston diameter (42-48) but the earlier brakes could now have the larger cylinders, since for a long time, the new cylinders have only been available in the 1-3/8" size.

If any of the cylinder bores are badly pitted and would therefore require alot of honing to clean up, you should consider buying new wheel cylinders. Also, the rebuild kits do not come with new pistons and often the old pistons are nasty.
Sometimes they are so corroded, they cannot even be removed. If the cylinders are honed too much, the seals will not seal and you will end up with
brake fluid on the new linings... and will have wasted alot of time rebuilding the old cylinders and money for the kits and new lining.

Same goes for the master cylinder.

I would avoid the new South American cylinders.

Macs Auto or C&G Early Ford will have the stuff you need, but as others have said, you need to determine the exact years of your brakes.

Thanks,
