lower radiator hoses I bought a set for my 36 with original engine. How in heck do they go on without cutting material off one end? New hose info said for 32thru36. Is the length of the hoses the same for all years or is shortening routine to make it fit for the 36? Thanks for any suggestions to get them on. Terry

Re: lower radiator hoses Bend the hose in the middle so the bottom of the "V" is down and push the hose down between the rad outlet and engine inlet, when bottom of open end of hose passes bottom of open end of rad outlet and other end of hose passes open end of engine inlet, pull/push gently up on the bottom of the hose and it will pass over the open top of rad outlet/engine inlet. But now you have to open the hose clamps to install them. ..B.

Re: lower radiator hoses Also apply a little grease to the outlets, inlets on the radiator & water pumps will help. I also use a cotter key removal tool to help get the hose around the inlets.

Re: lower radiator hoses I've used WD40 for some really tight fits involving radiator hoses. As mentioned, grease would work.

Re: lower radiator hoses good suggestions, when i replaced the lower radiator hoses, i discovered that at one time the front end had been hit (replacemet grille put in, in 1947, very little room for hoses so i did have to cut a bit off and cleaned the outlet it went on to real good and used a little wd40, went on pretty easy, be sure to have clamp on when you put on, tighten good. good luck.

Re: lower radiator hoses silicon spray is nice and slippery.

Re: lower radiator hoses Yes and it will not deteriate the hoses like petroleom prducts. Marv

Re: lower radiator hoses Thanks, fellas. With your help I got them on. And I still had to do a little cutting. Top hoses, even with top end and bottom ends slid in as far as possible, still had a kink in the middle of them. Either other years require a slightly longer hose or they are made a little long to be on safe side. Terry

Re: lower radiator hoses lay the hose down there and see if it is too long.
Bend in the middle to put it on as stated above. You can also use gasket sealer to help the hoses slip on and it will help seal also. WD 40 is a help too and it eventually goes away. It's the only thing I ever use WD-40 for. I have not done a '36 in almost a year but I did a '35 this week. |
Re: lower radiator hoses When I did mine, I removed the fan and unbolted the radiator. Tilt the top of the radiator toward the motor, making some extra space below.
