question on a radiator
 

I have came across this radiator for my speedster project and i dont think i have ever seen one like it. its flat tubed, appears to be made of copper. But the odd thing is the cooling fins the honey comb shap in stead off the traditional straight fins. i was wondering if anyone had evey seen this still.

It's after market. and they don't cool very well! At least thats been my expierience!

yeah i may end up just gettin its weight in scap becuase i dont know if ill get it flushed good enough. heck theres a rats nest in it.

I may get tortured for this, but I had one and I took it off the car, plugged the hose inlet and outlet, then poured a gallon of muriatic acid in and sloshed it around. Then flush it with water several times, and pour in a box of baking soda and fill it with water to neautralize the acid. It worked for quite a while until I had enough money to buy a new radiator. as far as I know, the guy I sold it to is still running it.

The problem with these is the fins have lost contact with the core resulting in minimal heat transfer. You can get it cleaned out, but if it doesn't transfer heat it still doesn't work. Is a motor really worth a used up radiator?

I ran a brass honeycomb no name radiator on a 16 for many years with no problem at all. Granted it was in excellent and probably unused condition when I got it but I never had any issues. Based on my experience I'm not quick to condemn a honeycomb.

well i actully bought two radiators the small honeycomb one and another still. its kinda diamond shaped, how ever its in really bad shap. the sides are rusted away, it pretty much looks like someone used it for a boat ancore. i paid $50 for both of then and i havent desided yet if that was money well spent or not. the attached thumbnail is the other radiator i have.

Honeycomb doesn't have fins. I would skip the muriatic and use vinegar. If you have the radiator, try that and give it a try.

I`m running a peerless honeycomb on one that seems to be working fine when everything is tuned proprly.
