Primer Sealer

I watched a tubb being built about two years ago. It was shot with a PPG primer sealer. It was close to a satin black, can anyone help me out with a part number on that product. Thanks!

Not sure if this is the same stuff, I tried to think of one that came in colors. This one does come in black.

I have used both Upol and Slicksand and they both have good points. I have never used the PPG product but assume its pretty much the same.

You need a big tip to spray them.

I painted a rod flat black and used Emeron Industrial Paint. It was the same paint they use to paint dump truck boxes. Tougher then nails or the stones throw up by the dump trucks. You can't "oven" it. Must be air dried and takes about 3 days. Comes in 5 different grade of gloss. Mine was with the least gloss and required no soap to wash. Even the bug juice came off with warm water. Beaded like it had wax. Expensive but great stuff. Coop

Re: Primer Sealer

DP90 is a black primer/sealer from PPG. Primers won't last any length of time if not top coated though.

It is DP90LF.

OK thanks, DP90LF it is! I'll get her painted over next winter but I plan to make a few runs with it this fall in primer.

I know this is old but I am a new member. I use PPG products. The DPLF is a self-etching primer. I use it over the bare metal. I use PPG K-36 primer-filler over the DPLF, guide-coat sanding three applications.

Re: Primer Sealer

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the DP primers are not an etching primer. DP is an epoxy primer designed to go over sanded and cleaned bare metal to give a great seal against corrosion.

DPX 170 and DPX 171 are PPG Deltron self etching primers and contain a chemical ingredient to "etch" the metal.

DP can be top coated or coated with a primer surfacer for more fill. the DPX must be covered with another undercoat, but not DP.

Google PPG refinish products and you can look up the entire line of products and each ones product data sheets.

Hope this helps. Jake.
