Running on one cyl! I started My A today and just for the heck of it I popped off the two front plug wires, then pulled #3 wire. The only one firing was #4 and it just chugged away! Guess My timing is OK. By the way I shut it off before reinstalling the wires. So anyone else tried this?

Re: Running on one cyl! If you want to see how to really time a model A Go to my web site and then videos and then timing your model A. You'll enjoy it running on one cyl. and it does work I've done it. Enjoy,

Re: Running on one cyl! You shut it down before reconnecting the strips ??!! Thats pretty tame.. Spice things up and hook them up while the motor is chugging along..

Re: Running on one cyl! In 1959 my Dad explained to me to never ever NOT ever touch the spark plug connectors on his Model A while the engine was running. Well---I was a very curious 7 year old. The next time my Dad had the hood open and the engine running I found out why to never ever NOT ever touch the spark plug connectors!!! Some things must be learned through "hands on" experience.

Re: Running on one cyl! What are the physics behind this? Long stroke vs. compression is assume? I tried once and could only shut down two.

Re: Running on one cyl! The physics of one cylinder and super low speed idle is the rotating mass of the flywheel and low compression.

My boy is a touchy feely kinda guy so all I had to do was say "You see those flat copper strips on the ZAAPPPPPPP" he doesn't touch them anymore either. Now that I have a 27 lb flywheel and increased compression, no more one cylinder demos. |

That huge flywheel keeps the engine spinning. I guess when you're trying to make that little banger faster, running on one cylinder becomes less of a priority! http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif |
Re: Running on one cyl! I love to demonstrate one cylilnder ops. The event always draws a crowd. After showing off I ask for a Chebby owner to do the same(:>)
