roof tear

Hi All,

I have a small rip in the roofing material of my car (about 4 inches). Any suggestions as to what to use to fix it? Another piece of material and glue it down?

On a short rip I worked some black silicone under the material, put a little weight on and let it dry. It has held for several years.

I don't know if they are still around, but there used to be vinyl repair kits, and I've seen padded dashes and vinyl seats with tears get repaired, and I couldn't tell where the repair was.

I've used a "different" patching technique for temporary tears. Would you believe SHOOGOO? It is a shoe repair glue like silicon but much tougher, sometimes called the mailman's friend. Can be gotten at sports shoe stores and shoe repair shops. I've also used it to make door bumpers and other anti-squeek places as it now comes in black too. I even used it to seal a rust hole in the floorboard in my VW van till it can be properly repaired. Works as a great high density krazy glue too.
