Jailbar Grill? Jail Bar and Grill 1 Attachment(s)
I dragged this out of the leaves the other day. I think it's off from a 42-47 truck. Has the Ford bumper of that era and a couple of license plate holders. Its 56 inches tip to tip of the headlight protectors and 27X24 center grill. Weighs about 100 lbs. All I could do to pick up one end. No maker name or other ID features. Must have been commercially welded up on a jig as everything is square and welds are perfect. Anyone else have one of these heavy duty grills?

Re: Jailbar Grill? Jail Bar and Grill It's a thing of beauty, that's for darn sure! The headlight loops kinda say 'military', and you're right about the professional fabrication. Perhaps from one of those 2 ton army jailbars with the six. And the front bumper is as good as it gets for one of them.

Re: Jailbar Grill? Jail Bar and Grill I have one, slightly different, they were a Period Correct option in the 42 to 47 period of time. What are your plans for it?

Re: Jailbar Grill? Jail Bar and Grill It looks more like a grill guard than a grill. But I am not all the familiar with that era trucks.

Re: Jailbar Grill? Jail Bar and Grill I meant to say grill guard.

Re: Jailbar Grill? Jail Bar and Grill I would really like to find a 42-47 truck and attach it. Have a 39 dump and 39 large panel.
My very first recollections of a truck ride was our 42 Ford pickup that dad bought in 1948 and kept until 1954 or so. Then one morning he stopped by the house in his companies 46 Ford dump. At age 77, as of yesterday, I still remember the sound of the starter, the clutter of stuff in the cab, standing on the seat so see out of the windshield, the sound of the V8, the shift lever moving in an arc from side to side between dad and I, the snick of the transmission when dad changed gears and the truck wandering from one side of the road to the other whenever he hit a bump. Between the bumpy WPA road and the worn out spring shackles, it was a memorable ride. I'd buy one in a minute and install that guard, paint the bumper red like that one had and relive that first BIG truck ride at age 5. I'm still looking for one like it. Maybe this year? ML |

Re: Jailbar Grill? Jail Bar and Grill I have 2 of these grill guards, both slightly different. I have seen 4 or 5 photo versions, Crispy Creme of NC put them on all their 42 to 47 Fords. Hilty's 47 Period Options book shows 2 companies that made them. Most people find them kinda ugly, not me but Period Correct options are of interest to me. This one looks to have a bigger headlight area, there is a metal support bracket on each side that heads into the engine compartment about 2/3 up. They are heavy (100#+),,,that bumper looks to be in good shape....

Re: Jailbar Grill? Jail Bar and Grill A Jail for a jail bar grill. Those would look good on those G8T military 1 1/2 ton trucks.
I like the front with just the OEM grill but to each their own. |
