Oddities...duct tape! 1 Attachment(s)
Well, I've never seen this application for Duct Tape before...
The rim of the bearing nose in the Left Rear brake drum had about 1/2" of duct tape wrapped around it...one layer. It was disintegrating but still tacky. None of the other drums had it. Weird! |
Re: Oddities...duct tape! For what purpose was the tape wrapped around the bearing hub? Is it cracked beneath the tape?

Re: Oddities...duct tape! I tape up the opening like that when I blast the drum/hub.Not to keep the grit out,but to keep my overblast from hitting the bearing surface. They may not have gotten all the tape off.

It doesn't look like there is any residue on the upper surface, like it may have overlapped or maybe been covering the bearing hole to prevent dust intrusion during storage, etc. The remnants look like the weave of the DT is circumferential...like someone cut a 1/2" strip and carefully wrapped it. I'm going with "mechanic's prank". "Hey Fred, I'm gonna put duct tape on this hub. Next brake job, somebody's gonna go nuts trying to figure it out!" |
