A few years ago there was an old Ford archive video of Ford stamping the 34 grille and it involved one piece but 2 separate hits. Amazing technology for the day.

That's not unusual even now. Often the first from is the "rough" one... gets things in place. The second form will set the radii, etc.
Some of the dies I had built for aircraft engine parts required numerous dies, three, even four, to get to the finished part.

The Ford Motor Company film which showed the stamping of the 1934 Ford grille was called, "RHAPSODY IN STEEL" Regards, Kevin.

Not: the grill bars are formed closed in final product. Big corrosion problem area. I sell replacement bars that are open slightly for penetration of plating / paint. Newc

It was fun to watch the film. I counted four separate die sets for making the grille shell. One for forming the basic shape with no grille bars, one for forming the left side bar shapes and one for forming the right side bar shapes (only one of those was shown in the film) and a final stamping to cut the slots out between the bars.
