1941 Pickup spare tire carrier

Would someone be able to post some photos of the 1941 1/2 ton pickup spare tire carrier and how it attaches to the bed please?
Thanks!

Re: 1941 Pickup spare tire carrier

I've tried.... can't figure out how to get pictures from my phone, to here. Sorry.
My pickup is pretty rough. Looks like maybe bracket was originally riveted. And mine is welded over. And, maybe an extra strap added at the top.
I need an education on how to transfer pictures with a new phone. Never had a problem with old phone. (frustrated)

That is what I was trying to figure out. Mine is welded onto the bed side. I wanted to know if they were welded/riveted or both. I had one V8 Club member send me photos so far.

Pretty sure the strap at the top was added...

Mine has fell off hence me not trying to post a pic. The remnants do match the pics above, though. I think they were prone to fatigue failures. Like in the pics above mine also has evidence of multiple messy attempted welding repairs.

I agree with Mart, My 41 looks just like the picture above les the strap and multiple weld repairs. If you use the mount make sure the tire is resting on the runningboard. The mount itself can not take the stress. Tim

You are 100% correct in regard to the stress. That is why so many are missing or if there, lots of messy welds, etc. in attempts to make them useable.
The earlier design was so much better. Of course, the earlier design was much more costly...even back then, Ford was figuring out how to make things cheaper and cheaper, quality and longevity be damned.

Kube,

Were they welded on or riveted?

Sadly, I do not recall. I want to say riveted. I'm (only) guessing, but I'm thinking Karl W. may chime in here.
I do know they were NOT riveted AND welded.

Found this Illustration of a 1940-1941 Pickup spare wheel carrier in my Files.

Mine still has one rivet you can see. The rest is ugly welds but it looks like there were two on each end. Tim

I have a friend who is looking for a '41 spare tire bracket. His is missing. He keeps eyeing mine up.

I don't know of anyone who makes these? Do you folks know of any that are reproduced?

Back-order-Bob made them years ago. Perhaps there is one or more "out there".

Given the fact that Drakes son has zero love for any automobile made prior to the 1960's. Not a chance. :)

Looking at the photo it's a relatively simple piece and given that it is hidden from view when in use, I'd have a go at making a reasonable facsimile if I needed one.

Edit: I found mine and it is a lot bigger than the photo suggests. I'll post some pics.

Mart.
