59A motor in 1934 Fordor sedan Hello all. Is there any modification needed to install a 59A Flathead motor in 1934 stock fordor sedan? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 59A motor in 1934 Fordor sedan usually you have to cut the front pulley off the crank pulley. Then, the crank is a little longer so it will hit the loop for the hand crank. Some cut this off, or you can buy a new one for a model A and cut that. You need to aim for the height of the crank nut to be in the same position, like you're gonna use the hand crank, or if too high you run out of clearance for the breather tube at the firewall. Even at the correct height its hard to get the breather cap off and on, so I made a longer tube to get the cap above the firewall.
Also, the height needs to be just right to be able to change fan belts when needed. |

Re: 59A motor in 1934 Fordor sedan I Had a 1957 Vagabond II Runabout for many years and loved that boat. Coolest aluminum boats ever made and I think I put a million miles on it. I got stopped every time I took it out by people wanting to know all about it and if it was for sale.

Re: 59A motor in 1934 Fordor sedan I just finished this swap on my ’34 Sedan. I made a few posts a while back and got a lot of help from the forum on this.
I kept the original front crossmember hoop, which ended up being the biggest constraint. I wanted to retain it and still be able to turn the crank through the hoop, so clearances at the front became critical. As mentioned prior, I had to machine down the crank pulley. There’s just no extra room there with a later flathead. Once I did that, everything finally cleared properly without modifying the hoop. Motor mounts were not even close to usable as-is. I ended up building them using the stock setup as a base, then machining a 1" solid steel spacer and adding additional urethane bushings to get the engine height where it needed to be. That height is what allowed the pulley and hoop to coexist and still maintain alignment. On the rest of it: * I had no issues with the breather fitting, despite what gets mentioned a lot * Transmission bolted right up with no issues at all * The real work is entirely at the front of the engine * Those eBay engine mounts did not work for me, they are offset and did not work with my water pumps Here are a couple pics of how it ended up: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/18...5316&width=400 https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/18...5314&width=400 |

Yours looks good, tight though! can you still slip a fan belt thru the crank and guide? |

Re: 59A motor in 1934 Fordor sedan I believe the "eBay spacers" with the offset are meant to put an engine with '49-'51 Merc pumps into an earlier chassis. Hence the offset.

Re: 59A motor in 1934 Fordor sedan Here are some close-ups from the mock-up. I’ve since changed out the hardware, but this is the stack I ended up with.
I made a 1" × 3" round steel spacer and beveled the bottom so it nests into the crossmember.
