nice to work on 34
 

I have been working on a friends A for some time, finished it the other day,/so decided to remove the generator on the 34 to fit a new front bearings per the last V8 times mag article, the 34 will do a few miles in the next two months so this was a nice clean easy job.
So, a thank you to the guy who wrote the article.

That would be Steve Blanchard ndnchf here on the Fordbarn. His work is second to NONE.....DavidG/Kube level stuff!!!!!

it was such an easy job, my 33 has the stock setup in, it seems fine ,has done lots of miles, but I may take it out and have a look just to be sure

Hi Lawrie. I think I would prefer to still have the tapered roller double bearing set up still in the front of the generator which are in there for a reason to handle the fan thrust. I dont rely on the oil lubrication but pack the bearings with front disk brake high temp grease after first inspecting the rollers and race for wear and washing them out . People dont like buying new ones because of the cost..Have to be very particular about the adjustment just like the front wheel bearings. Correct belt adjustment is very important too. Kevin, I did the 33 today with the same mod, it had the original little tapered rollers in that were ok but ,lots of oil inside the generator, self inflicted of corse.
So will try the modern angular contact bearings for a while.
how's things, we are heading off in the 34 in a couple of weeks to victor harbour, fuel should be sorted I hope by then,

Charlie Schwindler originally published an article for the modification in the V8 Times many years ago. The modification has changed since but remains the same basic idea.

Correct. Charlie Schwendler (note spelling) is the person who originally developed and wrote about this technique. His article was on page 18 of the Jan-Feb 2004 V-8 Times.
