1932 Phaeton Std. vs. Delux

Are there any definitive ways to figure out if a car was standard vs. delux? From what I've read so far the differences in the Phaeton were all bolt on parts so any could have been changed over the years.

I suggest buying the 32 Ford book by Dave Rehor
There's two volumes. they are a wealth of information on the 1932 models
In answer to your question. If the body has holes in the cowl for cowl lights it was probably a Deluxe version. The holes were easily drilled so they may have been added later in its life. Deluxe cars had a different interiors and windshield frames among other things. All of which may have been removed at some point in the last 94 years.

IIRC, the original side upholstery panels on a standard would have been pressed cardboard, on a deluxe would have been the early vinyl that Ford used. See Dave's book. The front seat back would have been painted on a standard and cloth covered on a deluxe. There were some retainer strips that went along the front of the rear door opening and on either side of the kick recess to assist in retaining the cloth (these are REALLY rare). Top irons would have been painted black.

1932, 33, 34 Standards & 4 cyl's.....just about lost due to years being "converted" to Deluxe's & to V8's (not to mention "hot rods)!!! TO add to the problem is cowl lights could have been added at the dealer AND for State Motor regulations. Few out there cared to "save" a standard as a standard as much as David Rehor did, God rest his soul!!! AND to save and appreciate them for history sake.

My'32 Deluxe roadster has a cowl reinforcement plate for the cowl light mounts.
